Pennisetum ‘Princess Caroline’ Now Available

Pensacola, Fla., September 25, 2009

Emerald Coast Growers, always on the cutting edge, is fully stocked with one of this year’s hottest varieties, Pennisetum ‘Princess Caroline’.

A runaway success at this year’s OFA Short Course and beyond, ‘Princess Caroline’ is the newest addition in the ‘Prince’ family of Pennisetums. The best-selling grasses come from Athens Select™, the collection of unique heat- and humidity-tolerant plants selected by Dr. Allan Armitage at The University of Georgia Trial Gardens. Emerald Coast Growers is a charter propagator for the group.

“We love ‘Princess Caroline’ for its fabulous rich purple foliage, vigorous growth and small stature,” said Cheri Markowitz, Emerald Coast Growers’ sales manager. “It’s a great addition to any ornamental grass program and a sure seller.”

Pennisetum ‘Princess Caroline’ features brilliant purple foliage on plants that reach a mature height of about 3’. It’s a shorter version of ‘Princess’ but with better disease resistance, excellent weather tolerance and sturdier growth.

Excellent in pots, landscape plantings and mixed containers, ‘Princess Caroline’ will not flower except in total frost-free areas and prefers full sun. USDA Hardiness Zone: 8.
